SHIPWRECKS IN BRAZIL

It can be affirmed that there exist more than 3000 shipwrecks in our coast, unassuming ships of small dimensions as fishing boats, small sailing boats, etc.

A great concentration of shipwrecks is directly proportional to the historical importance of the areas and at the time in that this importance ended.

We found a great number of wrecks in Bahia and in Rio de Janeiro, both old capitals of Brazil; also that happens in the area of Recife, port of great commercial importance since the colonial times for the production and export of the sugar and zone of several disputes with the Dutchman; Santa Catarina, point of obligatory passage for the first explorers of the Rio de la Plata, also had many old shipwrecks. In more recent times, due to the great amount of ships, in the route Rio de Janeiro - Santos.

Many shipwrecks, that we just knew through the historical sources were not still located but, with the expansion ant improvement of the diving techniques and equipments, many of them will be found in short period, creating new diving points.
